Love is not a victory march.
Humor:
I’ve been cranky and moody lately. Blame Eve.
So yesterday morning I was determined to be in a good mood. But then, at eight a.m. on the dot, the landscapers at our apartment complex went to work outside my window. Every Saturday morning, actually. Between seven forty-five and eight. Things like that start my day off wrong.
So I crawled out of bed and fired up the ol’ computer and sorted through emails. Luckily, Brevity’s daily comic was perfectly tailored to me that morning and I sat in my computer chair half-asleep and giggling recklessly.
You can look at it here.
Movies/TV:
You’ve heard how Tom Waits and Ryan Gosling are making a film together? It’s called The Good Heart. Wiki says, “An aging bartender named Jacques (Waits), takes Lucas (Gosling), a young drifter, into his care. His health is very poor after his fifth heart attack, and he decides to train the young man to take over the bar when he dies.”
Yep. I’m excited.
Ol’ D (Dismarum, that is) and I saw Fracture a couple weeks ago. Good flick. Okay, maybe a bit predictable, but I was entertained the whole way. In fact, I got into antsy I-can’t-wait-for-this-thing-to-play-out-and-find-out-if-my-hunch-is-right mode. Basically that means I shift positions in my seat every two seconds and gesture frantically at the screen. I’m sure it’s horribly annoying to sit next to me during movies, but maybe Ol’ D’s used to it after all these years.
After way too many days of recording and re-recording over old VHS tapes and struggling to remember what I want to record and what days and times and channels, etc., Mel and I finally got a DV-R. I think it’s slightly malfunctioning, but we’re settling for now. And I have officially watched Too Much TV™ as a direct result of the DV-R. I get to watch Judging Amy any time I want, though. And The Sopranos. And Third Watch. And Without A Trace. What could be better?
I know. Studio 60 coming back on. When I saw the ad announcing the return of Studio 60, I literally jumped out of my chair and yelled “YES! YES! YES!” so loud I hurt my throat and probably scared the hell out of the other two people who had the unfortunate experience of watching TV with me. However, this new/return episode was a little disappointing, and three of the main cast were nowhere to be found in the episode.
Music:
I just realized Low released a new one back in March. I feel like I already knew this, but I can’t quite remember. Regardless, it’s what I’m hearing now. It’s comforting and ominous all at once.
The Low website slates them opening for Wilco on tour this summer. Which reminds me: the newest Wilco album, Sky Blue Sky, kicks serious ass. This is one of those great any-time-any-place albums.
Tim hooked me up with some new Maroon 5. Good stuff, but not as grab-you-by-the-hips-and-make-you-dance as their last one. By that I mean: not as sensual. By that I mean something I won’t post here because it might embarrass others.
The Rocket Summer released a four-song EP on iTunes. The EP consists of three songs from Do You Feel, the soon-to-be-released (July 17) album and one cover song. I like the songs. I love Bryce Avary. But in my mind, Hello, Good Friend is still the best we’ve seen from him so far. If the EP is any indication, the upcoming album can go either way–it could be mostly mediocre, or it could blow everything else out of the water.
I think I’ll post one for tomorrow’s musics so you all have something to make you dance.
Have you heard The Nationals? They’re quite good and just released a new album, Boxer. It’s good stuff. Think Tom Waits and Morrissey.
Also listening to Allison, which is like listening to Fall Out Boy in Spanish. And Jarabe De Palo, which is like grab-you-by-the-hips-and-make-you-dance music. In Spanish. Think maybe I’ll have D put that as a musics monday too.
Websites:
eCampus.com sucks. I wouldn’t recommend using it. I ordered a used textbook from them and received one missing thirty-eight pages. I want to complain more, but I’ll just leave it the way it is. They are, however, giving me a full refund. I’ll just have to pay shipping to mail it back.
Overstock.com, on the other hand, is still one of my favorite places ever. If I was an internet site, this is probably the one I’d want to be.
Well, okay, that’s a lie. But you get the idea.
Alright. I’ve bored myself. I’m done now.
Peace, love, and music to grab you by the hips and make you dance.
