Me gustan las estrellas.

I dyed my hair too. It’s…different. Think: Jean Grey. Unintentionally, of course.

I saw a girl in one of my classes today wearing a shirt that simply said: Jesuit. I suddenly wished I was a Jesuit so I could wear that shirt too. Shortly thereafter, another girl in the same class entered wearing a different Jesuit shirt. Was it Jesuit day or what? Were they really Jesuits? What is going on here?

My Spanish professor is hilarious. I thought I would dread the class and initially referred to it as “ninety minutes of pure anxiety.” I’ve since changed my mind and actually enjoy it. The professor made an interesting point the other day. He knows four languages, and when asked which language he thinks in, he went on a tangent about how we find new ways of expressing ourselves in a new language. Typical concepts like love and work and peace and war are all redefined with the knowledge of a new language, culture, etc. It’s a fascinating idea. I always liked estrellas more than stars and ella more than she/her.

I was warned: Master’s is the new Bachelor’s. I should have acted preemptively perhaps to ward off the feelings of inadequacy I’m already experiencing with one year to go for the B.A.
However, I heard some potentially good news about the GRE tonight. I’ll have to research it more and get back to you.

I really need to find a way to explain myself, not as a defense—simply as an explanation. It’s late and bedtime, but I’ll just type up a few things I wrote during class today. My actual explanation will have to come at a later date after hours of organizing my thoughts. For the moment, it mostly boils down to something like this:
Politics and morality are two entirely separate things and should remain as such. This isn’t even a separation of church and state thing. The arguments against such hot topics in politics as gay marriage, abortion, etc., are all based on moral judgments. Too often Americans feel we have the right to force our beliefs, our morals, our values on everyone else. That’s not freedom. For that matter, it’s also not Christian. I won’t get on that soapbox now, but the idea is we’re supposed to preach the Gospel, not judge, damn, or kill those who don’t believe it or don’t follow it. America has forgotten what freedom entails. To be free, we must extend freedom to everyone in our country, so long as it does not interfere with another’s life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. C’mon, we know this.
For example, some people say their religion doesn’t allow them to approve of gay marriage because homosexuality is an abomination. Okay. Fine. They can choose for themselves not to follow a homosexual lifestyle. But neither the Constitution nor the Bible says anyone has a right to prevent others from doing so. You don’t have to approve of gay marriage, but you have no right in the political realm to forbid it.

Okay. I’m losing focus and there’s a throbbing pain in my jaw where four teeth used to be, so I’m winding down. I encourage anyone to respond with his political views, but in a polite and respectful manner. And of course these aren’t refined thoughts. Just workshopping thoughts here.

I’m out.
Peace, love, and really cool, simple Jesuit shirts.

Werd. I can’t believe that Guiliani wanting to keep his beliefs private is front page news. I don’t give a damn if he’s christian, atheist, or buddhist - the important thing is what kind of person he is.

Is it wrong that when I see the word Jesuit I think of some sort of tiny wheat Jesus cracker?

And I like your opinion. If more politicians worked like that I’d fee a lot better.
