I spent the late hours last night at the park with a couple of friends, attempting to get dollar-store kites launched in the air amassed with glow sticks and tea lights. Yep. Tea lights. I received a book on kite making last week and not only does it instruct on how to create kites, but it also has plans for a flambeaux. In simple terms, it’s a mini-lantern made out of tissue paper, wire, and aluminum foil - all of this is assembled and then illuminated by a tea light. The entire thing is supposed to attach to the towline of the kite and stay lit while it flies. My initial attempt was stunted as I couldn’t manage to even get the thing lit. My friend’s caught on fire.
Next project: tea light armada. By no means am I giving up on the lantern, but I do believe that will take some trial and error. Plus, as someone pointed out, the chances of starting a catastrophic fire are significantly less when you’re launching something out on a lake vs. the sky.
Yep, I’m 25.
